Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has dismissed the speculation that Ange Postecoglou will raid his former club, Celtic, for key players like Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate to strengthen his new team, Tottenham Hotspur.

Sutton believes that Postecoglou will not risk his good relationship with Celtic fans by taking their beloved players.

Postecoglou, who recently left Celtic to take on the challenge of managing Tottenham in the English Premier League, has been the subject of much speculation.

Many have suggested he might target key players from his treble-winning Celtic side, such as Kyogo and Hatate, especially given his history of recruiting from his former clubs.

The speculation has been further fueled by the fact that Tottenham’s star striker, Harry Kane, is out of contract in 12 months and could potentially leave this summer.

However, Sutton, speaking on BBC 5 Live, has a different view. He believes that Postecoglou will respect his former club and not risk alienating Celtic fans by dismantling their team to bolster his new one. Responding to a Tottenham fan’s question about the possibility of Kyogo joining Spurs, Sutton said: [Daily Record]

“I may be wrong here and you can play this clip back, but I don’t think that Ange will go in for any of the Celtic players, based on the fact the Celtic fans still love him. If he went back and pinched their best players, they would not be happy.”

Sutton also addressed the question of whether Kyogo would be a suitable replacement for Harry Kane, should the English striker leave Tottenham.

“He’s a different player to Harry Kane. He’s good enough to play in the Premier League. Is he good enough for Spurs? Yes,” Sutton responded.

  1. Ange couldn’t give a shit about his “relationship” with Celtic fans. He’s another badge kisser. If he wants a Celtic player, he’ll make a move irrespective of how the Celtic fans will take it.
We have to just accept these guys are mercenaries and don’t care about the club or fans once a financially better offer comes along.
He’ll leave spuds in January if a better job comes along.
