CHRIS SUTTON has been a huge proponent of Neil Lennon in charge at Celtic since the Irishman came in for Brendan Rodgers. The Englishman has backed him when others have criticised but not even Chris is buying the idea Neil Lennon’s outburst on Wednesday was anything more than deflection.

The former Celtic star believes his former team-mate has opened a can of worms with what he said after the game and he now must show his hand or risk losing more than the stars he believed want away.

“I like a manager speaking his mind, but such comments after the game doesn’t help. It can create divides and whispers within the camp.” Sutton wrote in his RecordSport column.

“I felt it was a massive deflection tactic. You can pick players who are unhappy and want away, but not ones who aren’t committed.

“If they are not committed, why pick them? It was a remarkable outburst.”

Emotions were running high from the players to coaches and supporters. That’s when you need your manager to let cool heads prevail and say whatever he wants to the stars inside the dressing room. To publicly call players out, not name anyone and leave it lingering among the support and pundits to debate is not the way it should be happening.

I’d like to think Neil regrets his outburst now but as Chris Sutton wrote in his column, he risks losing committed players if they feel they have been targeted in the post-match rant.

Sunday is huge, and we keep saying this lately but we need a response and we need the real Celtic to turn up after a very poor start to the season.

  1. Urine poor start to the season.
What’s gone wrong? Lennie must take a hit.
As the song goes, its a thin line between love and hate, especially in football. ‘Hate’ too strong perhaps in Lennie’s case but mighty disappointment is obvious.

Tactics lost it for us. Team selection too. Post match deflectiion of failure from him didn’t help. How not to manage a work force comes to mind. Fault goes right back to the board. Not that they give 2 monkeys. The fans will always come back. A unique position in business is football.
Disgraceful start to what should be a momentous season
