CHRIS SUTTON took to social media on Wednesday evening to have a go at Manchester Utd, bringing Celtic’s name into the fray.

The English pundit acknowledged people can point the finger at Celtic for a poor campaign so far, but Manchester Utd are on a different level when it comes to disappointment having spent a ridiculous amount in the summer.

Man Utd surrendered a two goal lead in Copenhagen, losing 4-3 to the home side. A team consisting of Moi Elyounoussi and a certain Jordan Larsson.

Sutton clearly having a go at the Old Trafford club who are perennial losers despite spending a lot of money season on season.

However, we think Chris isn’t looking at things from the right angle. We should be looking at Copenhagen, their budget, which is inferior to Celtic’s and wonder why we can’t pull off these results any more.

We are putting in good performances but for a number of reasons we fall short again and again.

How we get to a place where we can take scalps again is going to be difficult.

The biggest thing would be playing expansive, attacking football domestically and then trying to do similar in Europe against teams who are far superior. When you look at the Celtic teams back in the day that made an impact in Europe they’ve had a strong spine through them and were more pragmatic in Europe than Brendan and Ange.

Admittedly the gulf has grown since those days, but surely there is a recipe for some success in the group stages.
