Comparisons have been drawn between Celtic’s 7-1 thumping of Dundee on Wednesday night and the era when Ange Postecoglou was in charge of the club.

The midweek victory encompassed high-intensity, attacking football that entertained the fans. It was a showing of authority from the champions and a message to the rest of Scotland that they remain well in the title race.

Goals came courtesy of seven different scorers in a performance that reminded supporters of the previous two seasons when Aussie gaffer Postecoglou was at the helm. The Spurs boss won five trophies across two years in Glasgow, implementing a style of football that regularly raised supporters off their seats.

Wednesday’s romping of Dundee was reminiscent of such an approach. This was the thinking of former Celtic right-back and now pundit Mark Wilson.

On Thursday’s Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the defender was asked if the midweek win reminded him of the Postecoglou era: “For me, it looked like that”, Wilson replied.

“The way the wingers kept their width, any time a full-back got the ball you could see it was out to them and out to the wingers as quick as possible.

“The midfielders were making those forward runs in between the centre-backs that are so hard to pick up. Everything was so quick and Dundee just couldn’t deal with it.

“They (Dundee) could not get near a Celtic player for that first 45 minutes.”

If Celtic can keep their level of performance from Wednesday night up between now and the end of the season, they will be champions.

There has been a noticeable difference in the past game-and-a-half in The Bhoys’ performance levels. Whether it be down to some key assets regaining fitness, slight tactical tweaks, or both, fans are not complaining and hope the encouraging displays only prolong.
