Former Celtic midfielder Barry Coffey has moved to Cork City, signing a deal until the end of the season with the Irish club.

Barry had been coming through the tanks at Celtic and was introduced to the under 17 side back in 2017. There was high hopes for the talented midfielder but it never happened for him.

Coffey spent the 20/21 season on-loan to Cliftonville and last season he spent the entire season on-loan at Cork where he’s now found a permanent home.

There are so many Celtic youth players from the past five years who have suffered due to poor planning, lack of imagination and tough routes to the first team scene.

Barry isa talented guy, there are plenty of players who come through Celtic who don’t quite get to the level needed. It doesn’t make them bad players and we’re positive, at the age of 21, the midfielder still has a big future ahead of him.
