RONNY DEILA has made his return to Europe, taking over the managerial role at Standard Liege after a successful spell with New York City, winning the MLS Cup with the club, their first-ever time lifting the trophy.

There have been murmurings of the manager taking over the side over the past few days, with it reported that he was interviewed for the Blackburn job, but it’s now been confirmed that the Norwegian has joined the Belgian side.

Interestingly, Deila will work with Fergal Harkins. Many Celtic fans will be familiar with the name; the man formally of the City group was heavily linked to work in Glasgow in a Director of Football role last summer.

Standard has a poor season, with Ronny Deila aiming to lift the club from the bottom half of the table.

He leaves America immediately to join the side as he looks to recruit this summer to help turn the Belgian club’s fortunes around.
