Two prominent Dutch publications have had their say on Celtic’s visit to Rotterdam on Tuesday evening and it’s not that scathing of the Scottish Champions.

The Telegraaf wrote the game was evenly poised with Celtic having the better of the chances in the first half. The paper summed up the free-kick that led to the Feyenoord opener perfectly. Sometimes at this level, you just need that one chance.

Telegraaf: ‘No one in the atmospheric and sold-out Kuip saw the goal coming, and neither did the former goalkeeper of the English national team. But at this level, one chance, one goal is sometimes enough to achieve a top result.”

Volkskrant complimented Celtic’s attacking players by revealing the trio of Kyogo, Maeda and Hatate were dangerous, especially in the first half. The publication conceded that once the two reds came in quick succession, the game, as a contest was over and Celtic could no longer compete.

Volkskrant: ‘It ended with eleven against nine, due to two red cards for Celtic, who played badly after the break. It was no longer really exciting, because Celtic barely crossed the halfway line.

‘The trio of Japanese at Celtic, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate, in particular looked smooth and threatening.’

Celtic fans know that Tuesday evening was a lost opportunity. The bhoys were well in the tie and could have at least come away with a point. However, the errors at the free kick gave the Dutch side a platform on which to build.

Second half, Feyenoord looked more assured and when Gustaf was sent off, the writing was on the wall. Holm receiving the same fate only compounded our capitulation on the night.

The bhoys will have to guard against the smallest of errors in their next five games if they’re to attain European football after Christmas.

Celtic sit with 0 points and dead last in the group after matchday one, with Atletico and Lazio drawing in the other game.
