CELTIC fans had been crying out for strength in depth over the past 18 months when it came to the defence. It would always be one or two injuries in that department would send us into a crisis of sorts.

Nir Bitton found out he can do an admirable job at centre back because of it but there was times last season and even this season where we have played centre-backs as full-backs and even Callum McGregor at left-back!

Now, after the dust has settled on the transfer window – Celtic truly have some depth in their defence and Hatem Elhamed is leading the charge when it comes to where he can play.

We already know the right-back can also play central defence and does so for his country more often than not. However, the Israeli also told SunSport he can play left-back too having just come off international duty playing in the role for 45 minutes.

It’s highly unlikely Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor will both be out at the same time but it’s great to know the defender can step in, leaving Callum McGregor off left-back duties forever.

“I also played 45 minutes at left-back against Slovenia, as well as playing in the middle. So I feel I’m capable of playing anywhere in defence.” Hatem revealed.

“It doesn’t matter to me whether it is right-back, left-back or central defence. I’m confident I can make the right decisions regardless of what position I play in.

“I felt I did well for the national team and it has been a good start so far for Celtic. I am happy to switch positions if required.

“The derby was a great experience for me. I played two different positions and I want to take the confidence into Thursday.”
