It has taken a gutsy performance for his country for the English media to really start rallying behind Jason Denayer as a very real option for Man City next season.

The Belgian defender who won young player of the season at Celtic helped his country beat France in an enthralling 4-3 encounter. This has now prompted English media outlets to describe the player as “one to watch” and “Expect him to thrive with the rich folks”

At a club where spending massive amounts of cash is the ‘in thing’, Jason is facing a real struggle to convince the Man City hierarchy that he should be in first team contention even though his ability is obvious.

Any Celtic fan you ask will have nothing but praise for the player who came to Celtic on-loan a year ago a virtual unknown to being an ever present calm influence in our team.

There is no doubt the defender is destined for great things as he’s already shown a maturity beyond his age and he can only get better.

The Belgian boss was full of praise for the former Celt after the win.

“Always calm. I’ve never seen him nervous; he has a lot of confidence and there will be someone with experience standing next to him.

‘It is not too early for him. He has the qualities and if he does something wrong…that is my fault.”

It’s now very much up to Manchester City whether they out-source and over pay or start reaping the rewards from their youth system. If they don’t want to play him we’ll have him back no bother!
