English Premier League side Leeds United have reportedly opened talks over a possible deal for Celtic defender Leo Hjelde.

In the last few months, reports have suggested that the talented 18-year old has been heavily linked with a move down south to Leeds, with Marcelo Bielsa looking to add more talent to the ranks.

According to the Daily Mail, they have now opened talks over a possible deal to bring the Norwegian to the club.

Last season, at just 17-years old Hjelde, got his first taste of Scottish top-flight football experience as he helped Ross County survive the drop.

It was impressive for a player at such a young age to go in and make that impression so soon after departing on loan last January.

With that talent comes a lot of interest from clubs across the UK, and Leeds look like they have been keeping an eye on his progress for some time now.

Hjelde is currently in a similar situation to several players at the club, as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at that club.

He has featured a couple of times for new boss Ange Postecoglou in pre-season and was in the squad for yesterday’s friendly fixture against West Ham.

It is always frustrating to see the club’s best talents let go before seeing them have an impact on the first team. So, fingers crossed, we can get him signed up to a new contract at Parkhead.

  1. He is not going to sign a new contract. Leeds will pay more than double his wages they have more money down south in their youth setups and their youth league much more competitive. Celtic doing the correct thing now and looking for a fee from which they will put on addons.
