According to reports this afternoon it looks like former Celtic defender and academy player Darren O’Dea is on the brink of a move to Celtic as a coach.

O’Dea retired in the summer after finishing his contract with Dundee and took up an under 18 coaching role with Motherwell as well as playing with East Kilbride.

While Darren has just taken up the Motherwell post, SunSport reports the ex-Celtic man is about to rejoin the club in a similar role and perhaps the coaching position Damien Duff had been occupying before he was quickly called up to first-team duties.

O’Dea is a Celtic supporter, he has come through the ranks at Celtic and has spoken on many occasions about the late great Tommy Burns.

To bring in a coach who knows the club so well and will know exactly what the guys coming through the ranks are thinking would be a positive move for the academy.

Anyone who has been influenced by Tommy Burns in their career will know the importance of the role.

O’Dea left the club almost eight years ago when he moved on to Toronto.
