Former Celtic full-back Jeremie Frimpong has received international recognition for his recent form with current side Bayer Leverkusen by gaining a call-up to the senior Netherlands national side.

The 21-year old joins another former Celt in Virgil Van Dijk as part of those named in Louis Van Gaal’s squad that will take on Denmark and Germany in two friendly fixtures later this month.

Frimpong departed Glasgow last January as part of an £11 million deal that saw the defender head to Germany to join Leverkusen, where he has since come up against the Hoops in the Europa League earlier this season.

Thanks to his form in the side over the past years, the right-back has also been touted for moves to clubs such as Bayern Munich in the near future, having showcased his talent in the Bundesliga.

With this latest international call-up, it could lead to attracting more interest across the globe for the talented Dutchman and could also potentially include more money for Celtic further down the line, thanks to any sell-on fee included in the sale last January.

Frimpong will be hoping to earn that opportunity to impress on the international stage as the Netherlands prepare to take on the European opposition on the 23rd and 26th of March.
