CELTIC have been in talks with Vinicius Souza’s agents for quite some time and wanted to bring the defensive midfielder to Parkhead this summer.

There has been a ‘will he, won’t he’ element to this transfer, but over recent days it had become increasingly unlikely the Brazilian’s next destination would not be Celtic.

The gut feeling from many Celtic supporters following the story was that Celtic would end up looking elsewhere. Tonight, Fabrizio Romano put an end to the speculation by confirming the midfielder is now in Spain ready to seal a move to Espanyol.

There are times when Celtic are linked with players but haven’t shown a real interest. This time, sources close to the club to CeltsAreHere there was contact and interest in the player.

Given Souza’s link to the City Group and Mark Lawwell now officially dealing with Celtic transfers, there was hope a deal could be done, but not on this occasion.

Celtic and Ange have been working through a list of targets and will not be too downhearted by the way this deal has went. Ange wants players who want to come to Celtic and help him do big things. If there’s a reluctance, it’s likely Ange will have been put off by any deal.

The Bhoys can now focus their attention elsewhere.
