Rubin Kazan’s Filip Uremovic has made the claim he was on the brink of signing for Celtic but the club pulled out of a deal to sign him after signing someone else.

Uremovic, 22, is a centre back who can also play right-back and revealed a deal looked likely until the Scottish champions went in a different direction.

It’s fairly evident that the deal which would have scuppered this move would have been the move for Hatem abd Elhamed.

The Israeli defender signed for Celtic at the end of July and has already made his debut for the club. Once that deal was almost concluded it looks like the club dropped any interest in the Croatian defender.

Uremovic would have joined fellow Croatian Jozo Simunovic at the club had the deal went through but he’s looking to the future and says he’s not bitter.

“I had the option to move to Celtic this summer, but the transfer did not happen.” he told Sunsport.

“I don’t look as it as a bad thing because it meant I’m staying at Rubin and I am very happy here.

“The main reason I talked to Celtic was because of the attraction of them playing in the Champions League.

“But the reason the deal didn’t take place was because they went out and signed another player instead.

“I’m not bitter about it because I’ve had a good season so far and there is a really good atmosphere at the club.”

Hatem had a positive debut for the club before going off with a dead leg, the defender is in Celtic’s Euro squad for Wednesday evening.
