Emilio Izaguirre returned to his first club Motagua after leaving Glasgow two years ago. After his second stint at Celtic Park, the player moved back to Honduras to finish his career. However, things have turned sour at Motagua with Izzy falling out with manager Diego Vasquez.

Izzy believes he has a good few years of football left in him but has not been getting played. It prompted a huge rift between the player and the club. The left-back’s contract has been allowed to run out and he’s now seeking his next move in the game.

This is where it gets interesting.

Honduran publication LaPrensa is reporting the defender is close to signing for Moagua’s major rivals – Marathon Vice President Rolin Pena.

According to Marathon Vice President Rolin Pena, there have been talks between Izzy and the club.

“We have had conversations with Emilio

“Emilio has been constantly meeting with the coach and the president of the club.”

There’s no guarantee a deal is done but it shows you Izzy’s mindset. If he can stay in Honduras and continue his football, he won’t hesitate to play against his former side.

The defender spent two spells at Celtic, his first spell the most successful part of his career. Izzy was Celtic’s first choice left-back until Kieran Tierney rose to prominence from the academy. After Kieran had come in, the defender’s days were numbered.

He did try to leave Celtic the first time a year earlier when he took part in an individual lap of Celtic Park on title day. But he was not given a release or a move and stayed at the club beyond that season.

The overriding theme of the player’s career is; if he isn’t getting game time he wants to move somewhere he can get it.
