MORTEN WIEGHORST has been sacked as manager of Aalborg after just under two years in the job.

The former Celtic midfielder had found results tough to come by in recent times with one win in their last eight.

The Aalborg sporting director pinned the blame of the club’s failures on the outgoing boss.

Speaking about Morten’s dismissal Allan Gaarde said it was all about results “It’s primarily based on results. We’ve only managed one win in 12, and the Vejle match was a clear backward step.

“I hoped the team would develop more, but we have not come far enough. We’ve long been not good enough to score goals against teams that come to defend against us.

“We have the right players in the squad to deliver better results.”

No big surprise the sporting director in charge of recruitment is putting it down to results and not the recruitment side of things.

Weighorst seemed to take exception with these comments and responded: “It’s rare for a sporting director to fire himself.

“He may have his opinion, but I have tried to develop the team. I have not always been happy with our development.

“But a coach is also dependent on the work of his sporting director.”

The former Celtic star who has battled bigger things than football over his career was in charge of 77 games for Aalborg before given the boot.

The Dane was part of the famous Celtic side who stopped the ten back in 98 and is still remembered fondly around these parts.

We wish him all the best with his next job in football when it comes around.
