FORMER Celtic midfielder Liam Henderson who currently plays for Serie B side Empoli has been caught up in the nationwide lockdown in Italy due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Scottish Cup winner has been plying his trade at a number of Italian clubs over the last few years and finds himself in lockdown with the rest of the country.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound as cited by SunSport, Liam spoke about the current measures in place.

“To be honest it’s been pretty normal for me.

“We’ve basically been going into training and went into training today after the lockdown at night.

“The club basically just explained the protocol of what we have to do. We’ve to basically go from our home to the training ground and back.

“The club have been really good. The two club doctors sat down with the whole team today and basically just explained everything that is going on.

“Empoli have been really, really informative with their information.”

There’s a growing reality in the UK that football is leaning towards a closed-door environment for the remainder of the season. Arsenal vs Manchester Utd has been postponed on Wednesday evening because Arsenal players have potentially been exposed to the virus at their recent Europa game.

Celtic’s trip to Ibrox hasn’t been postponed or marked for a closed door game at this point in time but you have to think, as the spread starts to peak, there will be call offs.
