It was revealed earlier in the week that Celtic are on the hunt to find a new under-18s manager, with former stars Jonny Hayes and Charlie Mulgrew being named as potential targets.
Now, a new name has emerged in Adam Asghar. Current manager of Southampton under-21s, the 29-year-old has his side sitting top of Premier League 2 Division 2, the second tier of youth football in England.
Previously, Asghar has enjoyed spells at Sunderland as an under-18s manager and at Dundee United where he was assistant to Tam Courts.
AÂ fresh, young, dynamic coach, the appointment of Asghar would likely excite supporters much more than that of a Hayes or Mulgrew, and it appears he has a 50/50 chance of landing a role at Celtic.
As well as a new under-18s manager, the club are also on the hunt for a new B team boss following Darren O’Dea’s advancement to the role of Professional Player Pathway Manager.
Indeed, according to RecordSport, the Hoops will appoint two from a four-man shortlist – including Hayes, Mulgrew, Asghar, and an unnamed internal candidate – to fill the two vacancies.
This academy restructure comes amid the end of the season for Celtic B. The youngsters have just two games remaining in a campaign where they have continually improved as time has progressed.
