Former Celtic Star Anthony Stokes was marched off a plane by armed police in London after returning from a trip to Dubai it has emerged.

The striker who has recently signed for another Iranian team was on the flight from Dubai to Gatwick and when they landed he was met by cops.

One passenger who was on Friday’s flight told SunSport: “I heard raised voices in the cabin and we were all told to stay in our seats for them to deal with someone on the plane.

Celtic would NOT be guaranteed Premiership title if coronavirus leads to mass cancellations
“They asked for Mr Anthony C Stokes to come to the front of the plane with his luggage.

“He was walked off and I later saw him and another man standing by the baggage belts.”

It appears Anthony was arrested for an outstanding warrant out for him in the UK. The former Celtic striker doesn’t spend a lot of his time in the country and has been hopping to different football clubs across Europe and beyond since leaving Hibs a few years back.

At only 31, the Irishman is a far cry from the player who had a fantastic connection with former Celtic player Gary Hooper.

His best football perhaps came at Celtic but due to off the field issues over the years, Anthony has never really reached his full potential.

His club claim the player went awol after initially asking for more time in Dubai:

Amir Shafizadeh, who runs Persepolis Facebook page, said: “Stokes said he’s in Dubai as he didn’t join us since our last match.” as cited by SUNSPORT.

“He asked our coach for permission to stay two more days in Dubai because of his family.

“Our coach agreed. We waited for him because he promised us he’d come to our training sessions.

“He hasn’t returned to Tehran for two weeks.

“After some days, he said he couldn’t come because of coronavirus.”

It appears his club aren’t happy.
