It has been reported that English side Portsmouth are interested in a move for former Celtic striker Jonathan Afolabi [Hampshire Live].

Afolabi made the trip north to Glasgow from premier league side Southampton in late August 2019 just as the quest for 9 in a row was beginning.

It was hoped that the Republic of Ireland under-21 internationalist would be able to breakthrough into the first team at Parkhead but it wasn’t to be.

During his time in Scotland, the striker spent time out on loan with Dunfermline, Dundee and Ayr United with his most recent spell coming at Airdrie where the striker played a part in getting the club to the Championship final play-off only to be beaten by Queens Park.

There has been a number of exits from Celtic Park this season and it looks like less than a month after departing, Afolabi may find a new home with the 22-year old featuring on trial for Portsmouth.

Ever since making the switch to Glasgow, his career has been stop-start and this move might be just what is needed.

There is still a lot of football to be played in Afolabi’s career and it will likely be more beneficial to move away from Scotland and press restart with Pompey boss Danny Cowley ready to give him that opportunity.
