Former Celtic target and Motherwell defender, Declan Gallagher has signed a pre-contract agreement with fellow SPFL side Aberdeen.

In an announcement released to social media this evening, the Dons announced that the Motherwell defender had signed a two-year deal at the club where he will join next season.

With his contract coming to an end this season, some were touting Celtic to make a move for the 30-year old defender and reports suggested that Gallagher could have been holding out in the hope that he received that offer.

But now, he will join Aberdeen who are undergoing a rebuild of their own with new manager Stephen Glass and of course will also be joined on a pre-contract basis by Celtic captain Scott Brown, who will be Gallagher’s assistant manager and teammate next campaign.

Ultimately, a move to Celtic never really should have been on the cards for the former Livingston defender. He has had a good couple of campaigns for the Well but shouldn’t be near the Hoops side if we are looking to majorly improve next season.

The move to Aberdeen seems like the perfect next step for the Scotland internationalist.
