Former Hoops Boss Warns of Roy Keane Celtic Danger

JOHN BARNES has warned Roy Keane he would not be a good fit for the Celtic manager’s position if he kept the same temperament he shows during Sky Sports broadcasts.

The former Celtic manager believes the moody and stubborn approach to management is outdated and clearly no longer works with today’s players.

Barned believes the Manchester Utd Legend is intelligent enough not to go in all guns blazing but isn’t sure if Roy could keep his disdain under control with the media and underperforming players.

“If Roy Keane went to Celtic and managed the way he pundits, he won’t succeed.” Barnes told SUNSPORT.

“He’s intelligent enough to know that he’d have to change his style to what we see in the TV studio.

“Twenty, thirty years ago, his style would have worked, shouting and abusing players, but that doesn’t work with modern players anymore, he would struggle with this approach and lose the dressing room.

“However, Roy Keane’s a clever person, so he would likely change his approach if he went in as manager there.

“If the fans and the club give him time, then I’m sure Celtic will be as competitive as Rangers have been since Steven Gerrard was given the time. Keane will not be successful with Celtic overnight.

“Success will depend on Roy Keane and how he approaches the job and whether he is given enough backing by the board.”

There’s not much support out there for a Roy Keane appointment from the Celtic fans.

That ship has long sailed into the night. He’s been out of the management game for too long and should continue to entertain us with soundbites during a Sky Sports broadcast.

Celtic need to find a progressive coach who is willing to change the club from top to bottom, get the youth system working better for us and making sure the club as a whole can move forward.

Roy Keane is a man you bring in for a couple of seasons who will not have any real lasting legacy.
