FRASER FORSTER has spoken about his return to action, 10 months after his last game for Celtic.

The goalkeeper was last in goals at Parkhead during their 5-0 win against St Mirren back in March before the lockdown.

Since then, the keeper had trained with the club before heading back to Southampton in the summer.

Officials at Celtic were confident of landing the keeper on-loan for this season but it became apparent after Forster returned to England, he wasn’t coming back.

For whatever reason, Fraser decided to take his chances at Southampton and if you paid attention during the week, Alex McCarthy testing positive gave him his first home start at St mary’s in three years.

The goalkeeper stepped in and kept a clean sheet against the EPL champions, Southampton winning three points against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Speaking to the official Southampton website, the player spoke out about his first start of the season:

“It’s a fantastic result, first and foremost.

“It’s always tough when you’re not playing as you are a bit rusty, but I think the lads in front of me were fantastic and really limited the number of opportunities, which were few and far between.

“Everyone defended, especially in the second half, from front to back so it was a fantastic team performance.

“Probably not our best performance on the ball, but out of possession we were fantastic and it’s an unbelievable result in the end.

“I’ve not played 90 minutes since football stopped before the first lockdown, so you’re looking at the best part of 9-10 months, so I was a bit rusty.

“I came in and tried to do my best and I’m just thankful to be back playing. It’s a long time since I played here and it’s fantastic to be back playing for a club I love.

“The manager has got the team playing in a fantastic way and it’s such a good way of playing football, so to be a part of that is fantastic and all I want to do is what I can to help the club move forward, however that is.”

It’s highly unlikely Celtic and Fraser will ever reunite in professional terms. The goalkeeper who has done very well for the club over the years is happy at St Mary’s playing back up. Southampton will also not want to sell or loan him out because of Alex McCarthy’s positive case.

Celtic need to look at what their next move is when it comes to who should be number one.
