Gary Hooper, the prolific former Celtic striker, has penned a deal with FC Barnet, marking his return to English football.

Known for his goal-scoring prowess, Hooper left an indelible mark during his time at Celtic between 2010 and 2013, netting 63 goals in 95 appearances. This included a top scorer accolade in his debut season with 22 goals, alongside a triumphant Scottish Cup venture in 2011.

The English forward’s journey began at Grays Athletic in 2003, leading him through a series of clubs, notably Scunthorpe United before his illustrious spell at Celtic, followed by stints at Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday among others.

The news of Hooper’s new venture with Barnet was met with a mixture of surprise and nostalgia, as the forward, who once dazzled Celtic Park, is anticipated to inject fresh vigour into Barnet’s line-up, aiding their push for promotion in the National League. Hooper’s signing with Barnet comes after his brief spells at Omonia Nicosia and Gulf United.

In early September, Hooper also made headlines as part of a Celtic masters team that clinched victory in an indoor football tournament, a testament to his affinity for the hoops.
