GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS doubled his goal-scoring tally for the season, scoring a volley to open the scoring on Saturday night. The striker played well and looked capable of leading the Celtic line.

The Greek can count himself unlucky to leave the stadium with just the one goal. Speaking after the match, The former VVV Venlo striker told Premier Sports live that his season starts now after having an unlucky start to life at Celtic.

“First of all, I’m really happy because I stayed out for almost two months. I had an injury that wasn’t that small – my meniscus (knee). I stayed out for a long time and the most important thing for me is that I can play again and help my team. I feel good, I feel fit and, of course, the goals for me are my fuel to continue.

“Yeah, I was super unlucky. For me, the season starts now. I hope I can be healthy to the end and enjoy what I do.”

The impressive first-half display wasn’t quite matched in the second forty-five. Ange would have planned to manage the game in a different way, but three injuries had their own say in that. Giakoumakis played the full match, with Maeda playing on the wing.

The performance on display will certainly fill the Celtic fans with confidence.

The team had a presence up top, unlike spells in the opening months of the season when David Turnbull had to fill the position.
