Gordon Strachan has high praise for Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, asserting he’s ready for the Premier League.

O’Riley’s impressive form this season, which has saw him hit the back of the net more times this season than his first 18 months in Glasgow, coupled with his recent international break with Denmark, has significantly raised his profile. He’s made the last two international squads

Strachan compares O’Riley to Virgil van Dijk in terms of potential impact in the Premier League, highlighting his football IQ, fitness, vision, and goal-scoring ability.

He said, “Matt O’Riley, without a shadow of doubt, can follow Virgil van Dijk and make it in the Premier League,” Gordon Strachan said. “He’s got the lot; he’s got the football IQ, he’s focused on his football, he’s fitter, he has vision and goals in his game, he’s got a good physique and I am really sure that he can play for a top side in the Premier League.” [Boyle Sports]

There have been multiple reports linking Matt O’Riley to moves away, with many top teams from Europe’s top five leagues watching the midfielder carefully.

A move in January doesn’t look likely, but if the Dane continues to star in the Hoops’ midfield, a summer move certainly feels plausible.

Fabrizio Romano believes Celtic will receive a record fee for the midfielder when the time for selling comes.
