Gordon Strachan’s return to Celtic in August 2021 as an advisor, primarily focusing on the Football Academy, Women’s Team, and the B Team, has come under scrutiny due to the apparent absence of publicly shared outcomes or improvements.
Despite the initial announcement of his 3-month consultancy project aimed at enhancing these areas, there has been little to no information on the results or recommendations made by Strachan.
Daily Mail journalist Stephen McGowan expressed his concerns on the Press Box podcast, hosted by Graham Spiers, about the opacity surrounding Strachan’s consultancy role and its impact on Celtic.
The lack of publicised outcomes from Strachan’s stint raises questions about the effectiveness of consultancy projects in football and the mechanisms for evaluating and communicating their success. Stephen McGowan brought up the Dom McKay experiment when talking about the reports that Aberdeen are trying something similar.
He said: “Can I just remind you of the last time we had a consultant going into a Premiership club in Scotland?
“Where are the results of Gordon Strachan’s review at Celtic!?
“I know it was mainly restricted to the academy but you never heard what actually happened. Very rarely do they publicise what the outcome is.
“I’d love to hear what Gordon Strachan said about the operations at Celtic because from what I can see, absolutely nothing has changed.”
We’ll likely never find out the recommendations, especially considering the main who started it all, Dom McKay, left the club shortly after Strachan took up his position.
