THE prominent Celtic fan group, The Green Brigade, were notably absent from James Forrest’s testimonial match on Tuesday evening when Athletic Club travelled to Celtic Park.

Their non-attendance was marked on a night that was otherwise a celebration of Forrest’s dedication and loyalty to the club.

Some of Bhoys Celtic were at the match, but not in their usual numbers.

Have a look at the North Curve; it’s lying empty!

The Green Brigade and Bhoys Celtic, known for their vibrant support for the team, have not offered an explanation for their conspicuous absence.

However, it should be noted that the Green Brigade had publicly voiced their opposition to the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as Celtic’s manager earlier in June. Whether this disagreement led to their decision to skip the testimonial remains unconfirmed.

Their non-attendance cast a slight shadow on a night that was dedicated to celebrating James Forrest’s illustrious career with the club.

  1. They’re just a group of Communists anyway, always pushing ideological issues into the sport of football. They should be called the Red Brigade. Celtic should rid themselves of that lot as quickly as possible. Thank goodness they were absent tonight, now let’s make it permanent.

    • Football and sport is political because life is political, I don’t agree with the Green Brigade’s actions tonight but have to say they do lots of charitable work that I admire. Anybody who thinks you can leave politics out of sport is being naive. Celtic as a club have always been anti racist and anti sectarianism since the day they were formed, that’s being political.
The only thing I disagree with the GB on is their IRA chanting, Ireland has moved on and so should they.

  2. I really missed the incessant chants about the IRA tonight though. Why do these muppets get preferential treatment for away tickets?

  3. Communist China does lots of “charity work” here and there around the world, but everyone knows that this is how they keep people supporting them. I don’t agree that politics has a place in sport. It certainly had no place in the past. People go to watch sport because they’re stressed out all week with work and the strugles of life in general. The last thing they need is to find politicall groups positioned within sport, posing as supporters, but existing to spoil the fun and relaxation of the game. No, I say Celtic should get shot of the cultural Marxist element, which is at odds with Celtic’s Catholic roots anyway.

    • So, let me get this. Politics has no place but religion has ??? Football is embedded in politics even more so in the corporate world now than ever. Whitewashing by sports of tyrannical states, including your own British government has been common place throughout the sixty plus years of my life and if you know your history its enough to say that the religious and anti-Irish bigotry and racism which is endemic in your society, has been there almost since football began. A political act.
I don’t know why anyone boycotted a testimonial, although, personally I think they should be gone and as a health worker, no I don’t want it for my “charity” or any other under-funded group in society.
Furthermore, I can almost guarantee that most of James’ detractors over the years were there for their little bit of kudos tonight ! Finally, congratulations to a long serving loyal Celt who has given me many moments of pleasure and excitement. GOOD LUCK JAMESY

      • It’s a sport, to be enjoyed by people for its relaxation. Politics and religion have their proper place in society, but not in sport. The only reason I mentioned the Catholic religion is because the Marxism that the Green Brigade represents is so far removed from Catholic teaching and the mindset of Brother Walfrid. It’s the difference between darkness and light. So sad that today many people can’t see what these societal subversives really are and what they really represent.

  4. The row I sit and the row either side there was only myself and one other season ticket holder, are we going to critisise them too for not turning up

  5. Wee pricks hink there entitled to something, reminds u eh the wanks across the city. Aye the GB bring an atmosphere bt its out our pockets. 4 tifos promised last season n we got 2 b4 they went capn hand askin us again. Half eh them have not got a pube tae there name. Get them tae fuck n Fuckin stop spending it on spraypaint ya pricks!!!

  6. Absolutely disgraceful think they run the show do not donate to these muppets plenty of good Irish folk can’t get tickets for games ban them and send them to Ukraine see the freedom fighters in action absent from a legends testimonial is unforgivable for both these groups bye bye to Celtic end jungle clowns #crookstonbhoy

  7. Agree with everyone. Absolutely shameful behaviour and an astonishing slap in face to a celtic icon on his testimonial.
It’s childish and divisive behaviour. If they cant get fully behind the team this season then they should give up their tickets to those who do.

  8. Green Brigade should have been dealt with years ago.
Club seem scared to upset them in the slightest.
Personally I have no time for the political & sectarian nonsence they bring to the club.

  9. Just what Celtic football club needs. The fans turning on each other again, soon after the fallout of the latest manager’s controversial return. Politics has always been in sport, especially now. Russia’s current treatment for their war with Ukraine, is completely different from Britain’s treatment when it invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. The pro-Ukranian, anti-Russian stance is completely biased and has no place in legality, morality or ethics, yet how many people complain about that. Those who complain about the Green Brigade, do so because they don’t agree with them, not because of any lack of them being in the right. In the end, most people take a stance on their own personal prejudices. Being in the right has very little to do with it.
