JOHN HARTSON believes something has to give in the current Celtic striker situation. Speaking to Go Radio, the Welshman referenced the rumours of Giakoumakis’ discontent at playing second fiddle to Kyogo.

John thinks either the club or Giakoumakis will have to change their stance or see the player leave in January.

Speaking on Go Radio, Hartson said: “He wants to play regularly and feels as if he’s proved his worth in the games that he has played. His record per game in terms of scoring rate is magnificent.

“But the contract situation isn’t helping anybody. I would love them both (Giakoumakis and Furuhashi) to stay but something is going to have to give.

“The club are going to have to pay him more money, or the player is going to have to settle for that contract. He might look at other offers, I don’t know.

“But it’s the first time in a while that Celtic have had two really good centre forwards that you can trust to go in and score goals for them.”

Kyogo is the clear number one at Celtic. The striker has scored thirteen goals in 16 league appearances so far this season. Giakoumakis is seen as the number two option. The rumours claim Giakolumakis isn’t content with sitting on the bench and wants improved terms.

There’s been radio silence from Celtic about the striker, and Ange Postecoglou sidestepped the question a few weeks back when he said nothing had changed in training with regard to any of his players. [Go Radio]

Celtic are looking at striker options this January window, with range finding it difficult to keep two strikers happy; a third will unlikely join the mix unless there’s a view to moving on one of his current players.
