Celtic fans are divided on the future of Mikael Lustig. Some think he still has something to offer while others feel his best years in the Hoops have passed. Nobody is in any doubt the huge contribution that the Sweden international has contributed to Celtic’s huge trophy haul over the past seven years.

The decision of will he stay or go seems to be coming to its conclusion next week according to the right-back and Football Scotland.

“I will get a decision regarding the future next week,” Lustig said.

“It has been hard for some time now when I do not know about the future. I have been here [Celtic] for seven years and me and my family enjoy it. They [AIK] know well about my situation. I don’t really know how the rules are. But we have not spoken about any contract”.

With so many defenders heading for the Celtic Park exit doors in the summer, the club might be tempted to hang onto the experience Lustig offers while they bleed in some new recruits.

Anthony Ralston looks like he has the potential to step into Lustig’s boots but his season has been hampered with injuries. Christian Gamboa and Toljan on the other hand, do not look like they are going to make the cut at Paradise.
