CELTIC Women set a new SWPL record attendance when they took on Glasgow City, with 9,553 Hoops fans in attendance.

The match gave the Ghirls an opportunity to boost their chances of bringing the league title back to Paradise, and their supporters were there in their thousands to cheer them on.

After going behind early on, the Ghirls ran out 3-1 winners.

The first ten minutes of the encounter were evenly contested, with no clear-cut chances.

On the 20 minute mark, City opened the scoring. Lauren Davidson scored her 30th goal of the season. The scorer pounced on Craig’s mistake at the corner of the box and drove inside beating another defender, before slotting the ball into the back of the net. Pam Tajonar’s touch wasn’t enough to keep it out.

Celtic then took control of the game, pushing for an equaliser.

Jacynta was one of the forward players who took the ball and tried to create an opening for the Hoops. Flint had a few shots, but couldn’t beat the City keeper. Shen also struck a few from outside of the box, one was easily saved by Gibson, while the other was blocked on its way through.

Some slack passes allowed City to break, but the defence remained strong, ensuring the visitor’s lead didn’t increase.

Celtic went in trailing 1-0 at the break, despite being the better team for much of the first half.

Kelly Clark came on at half time, adding some experience and coolness to the backline.

After countless relentless attacks, Celtic finally got themselves back level. Tasha Flint, who’s been on fire recently, with the goal. she has the ball played to her from inside the box, and hits it first time from just outside the 18-yard line. It was a superb strike to get the Celts level.

Player of the match Flint went close again just minutes later, with Celtic now searching for a second goal to put them in the lead. The City goalkeeper pulled off two good saves, with fans knowing a Celtic goal wasn’t far away.

Celtic then took the lead with ten minutes left to play, with O’Riordan getting the goal. Jacynta whipped the ball in from a corner and O’Riordan rose high to meet the ball, nodding it into the back of the net.

Then, minutes later, Celtic doubled their lead. This time substitute Loferski made the run from her own half, showing some incredible control and skill to pass two defenders before rolling it into the bottom corner. It was a superb goal.

Celtic are now just two points behind Glasgow City, and the league is well within their reach.
