It has been a whirlwind year for Scott Bain – last season he started in the League Cup games and helped the bhoys to glory – by the start of 2019 he had been made Celtic’s number one by Brendan Rodgers.
Spending the rest of the season, even after Rodgers left, as number one – Bain would start this season as Neil Lennon’s goalkeeper but a string of poor performances which ended up in a hand injury has seen Bain’s standing in the team go down.
Fraser Forster coming in on-loan and immediately taking the jersey from Craig Gordon who had come in for the injured Bain would’ve been a cause for concern. The goalkeeper has watched on as Forster has made the position his own again while Gordon has been given League Cup duties. Where dos this leave the Brendan Rodgers signing?
Bain may have to bide his time before he can come back into contention. He has time on his side for sure but will be upset to lose his first team place so quickly after earning it last season.
Forster is only here for the season and Gordon’s contract is running out at the end of this season – this puts Bain in line to be the first team goalkeeper next term. If that’s the case will Neil Lennon choose to bring the goalkeeper in from the cold for Scottish cup games after the new year? Or will the Irishman look to keep Forster at the club for longer?
Possibly.
