Despite the swirling rumours and limited game time under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes Forrest is set to remain at Parkhead for the remainder of his career.

Reports in January had linked the winger to a Deadline Day exit, with Footy Insider also claiming that the veteran could make a move to the MLS, with their window shutting in April.

Forrest, 32, has had a decorated tenure at Celtic, contributing significantly to the team since making his first-team debut in the 2009/10 season. His journey from the youth setup to becoming a mainstay in the senior squad has been marked by numerous triumphs and memorable moments.

Frank McAvennie, speaking to Football Insider, shared his thoughts on the player’s future.

“I don’t think Forrest would want to leave Celtic. “He’s been at Celtic for a long time and he’s been on decent money for a long time – I think he’s settled.

“He’s financially secure and it’s his testimonial year so I can’t see him going.

“He can still do a job for Celtic coming on from the bench and he’s the kind of player you want at your disposal, which is huge for Brendan.

“You have to offload players but I think you know what you get with James.

“I think he will finish his career at Celtic.”

It’ll be one to keep an eye on, especially if Forrest is looking for more consistent game time as he enters the final stage of his career.
