Former Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has recently told a bizarre story about his time in Glasgow that involves a bitter Rangers supporting taxi driver.

The Norwegian internationalist departed Scotland in 2021 following Celtic’s disastrous Covid season. Ajer joined English Premier League side Brentford for 15.7 million euros (Transfermarkt) despite having a year left on his Hoops deal at the time.

The Scottish champions made a significant profit on the sale of the defender but he has struggled with injury down South, managing to rack up just over 50 Bees appearances across two and a half years.

Recently, he opened up about his time at Celtic. Ajer made 176 appearances for The Bhoys, winning nine trophies.

He became a favourite among some of the fans for his passion, but he was an enemy of rival supporters. Indeed, Ajer spoke about a fierce encounter he had with a bitter Rangers fan who ordered him to get out of his taxi after a night out.

As quoted by The Times, the centre-back said: “The taxi arrived at 4.30am and I jumped in.

“The driver turned around and said, ‘I know who you play for, get the f*** out of my taxi.’

“I had to call another and be sure he was a Celtic fan. Crazy. The rivalry with Rangers could be quite extreme.

“But that also made me absolutely love Glasgow and Celtic.”
