Mickey Johnston has been at Celtic since 2008, rising through the ranks to the first team. He’s failed to consistently impress fans, with injuries constantly sidelining the winger.

He’s shown glimpses of being a good player, he’s got pace and doesn’t mind doing a few tricks here and there.

Being a winger is one of the hardest roles in football, part of the position is to take players on and risk losing the ball, something that all the fans remember especially if he can’t register a goal or assist that game. But with no goals last season, Johnston’s Celtic future is uncertain.

He’s still at the club and has been involved in pre-season, as he gears up for what could be a make-or-break Celtic campaign for the player.

Mikey is hoping to get through this year injury-free which will enable him to show his talent on a consistent basis.

“I just want to enjoy football again, play my best stuff and show everyone how good I actually am.

“You can’t plan for it (the injuries) but there are definitely a few things you can do to avoid it and I would say that I am doing a lot better at that and knowing my body more than what I have done before.”

Has Mikey Johnston Already had his Celtic Chance?

Some fans may feel that Johnston has had his chance in the hoops and his time should be up, whereas others will have a contracting opinion.

I’m on the fence, there was a spell under Neil Lennon when the winger was a brilliant option from the bench until he was injured.

He’s not getting any younger, so with the years going by without him realising his potential the less likely it is that he’ll ever live up to it.

He deserves one last chance, if he can get over his injuries and kick on, there’s no reason why he can’t be a good squad option for Celtic.
