This summer, Scotland head to their first major international tournament in 20 plus years and several Celtic players will be looking to make the cut in Steve Clarke’s squad.

Names such as Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie seem more certain to make the squad being mainstays in Clarke’s teams. With the type of manager the former Killie man is, it would be a surprise to see them drop out.

There are also a few players on the outskirts of this squad, such as Greg Taylor and James Forrest. The latter of which probably has one of the best chances at being an outside shout despite not playing that often this season due to injury.

Arguably though, there is one more man in the Celtic squad who deserves a call-up more than the rest after being one of the Hoops only bright sparks of this season and that is David Turnbull.

It is never nice to see players pick up injuries, but especially at this time of year with a tournament just around the corner. But Turnbull could have received a boost after Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean picked up a knee injury yesterday.

Add that to the increase in the number of players Clarke can take to the tournament this summer, it now feels like Turnbull’s chances of making the squad are higher than ever.
