JOHN KENNEDY has provided an update on what’s going on with regards to Leigh Griffiths and his current contract situation.

Many assumed the striker was on for another season until the news came out that his final deal is optional, meaning the club can opt-out of it if they wish.

Given we don’t have a new manager in place to make that decision for themselves, Leigh is in limbo.

John Kennedy told Celtic TV on Tuesday afternoon a decision is yet to be made on the player’s future but there will be talks in the coming weeks.

“Nothing as yet. I think this is going to be a conversation. Because there’s been no decision made in terms of the management and everything else that goes with it, this is one we have to get through this week and then the club will have to have a discussion with Leigh.

“There’s nothing happening at the moment on that. It’s the same with several issues around the playing squad. The players have been great in that respect, the guys who are in that situation. They’ve been very professional in their work and they understand the situation’s not ideal.

But they’re parking that for the time being, and that’s something that will have to be addressed in the next couple of weeks I would imagine, or the next week anyway.”

We’re ten weeks or so away from the first Champions League qualifier and twelve weeks out from the start of the new SPFL season – it’s unfair to continue to keep Leigh waiting.

Leigh has not been a proper first team starter for years and it’s been a very long time since his 40 goal season for the Hoops.

Right now, we need to keep Leigh at the club out of necessity. Even if Edouard is still a Celtic player come the Champions League qualifiers, he will likely be away on Olympic duty with France. If Leigh isn’t there, we have one first team striker in Albian Ajeti.

  1. Unfair to keep HIM waiting? Really? The guy has messed us about for years with his antics, and albeit he’s a decent player on his day, those days are few and far between. LG gets a decent salary just for him to act unprofessional and hardly kick a ball. If he wants to stay and prove himself, he should sit tight and wait to be judged by the new manager
