LEIGH GRIFFITHS didn’t get off to a good start this season when he came back not fit enough to join the bhoys on their pre-season tour of France.

After that, Neil Lennon praised the striker for putting in the work while they were away and was impressed by how quick Leigh got up to speed.

It would be the undoing of him because he would pick up an injury going so hard at it in training out of necessity.

“Nir is feeling a bit sore on the knees and that’ being assessed as we speak.” Lennon told CelticTV.

“Everyone’s returned. Mikey [Johnston] is more of a long term casualty but Tom started training today and Griffiths is doing fitness work, so will hopefully be available for the upcoming games.”

This means Leigh could be in contention for Wednesday’s game against St Mirren at Paisley. The striker could command a place on the bench if Neil Lennon deems him fit enough for a place.

The frontman has his work cut out for him with Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti both looking strong coming off the bench for the Hoops in recent games.

There’s no doubt Leigh can be an asset to the club and with so many games, we can’t turn our nose up at the goals he can get on the board for the team.
