It was around a week ago it became clear the Fraser Forster deal wasn’t going to be as clear-cut as many would have hoped.

The goalkeeper was sensational for the club last term when he single-handily won Celtic a cup final and helped us top our Europa League group. There was hope Celtic could get a deal done early, and as we all now know, Celtic DID have a deal in place for the goalkeeper.

Neil Lennon told fans the club had managed to negotiate another loan deal and with Fraser training with the bhoys up until the end of June – it appeared to be a done deal.

However, when the goalkeeper went back to St Mary’s to thrash out the future, something changed and Celtic got the word Fraser wasn’t happy with another loan deal.

The Athletic have spoken to a source at Celtic and have claimed Neil Lennon and Fraser’s former teammates were left ‘shocked and disappointed’ at the news. Most expected the goalkeeper back up at Lennoxtown within days of leaving to thrash out his future.

The Athletic understands the news left Neil Lennon and many of Forster’s former team-mates shocked and disappointed, not to mention the Celtic fanbase who’d fallen for him all over again after he first left Glasgow in 2014.’

The deal doesn’t appear to be totally dead but it’s concerning enough Celtic are looking at other options.
