Jeremie Frimpong only spent 18-months at Celtic before moving on to Bayer Leverkusen for a fee that the Hoops really couldn’t turn down, especially during the uncertain days of the pandemic.

The Hoops brought Frimpong to Glasgow from Manchester City under Neil Lennon. The right-back came in as a youth project but quickly found himself in the first team.

When things were going wrong during the lockdown season, Jeremie was happy to move on to the Bundesliga and the board were delighted for the unexpected cash injection of around £12m.

One thing Celtic always do is put in a sell on clause into players leaving the club. Especially when Man City took a chunk of cash from the Leverkusen fee. The Scotsman has reported recently about a potential cash windfall.

Today, it’s being reported formal talks have opened up between Frimpong’s representatives and Manchester Utd over a deal to take the former Celtic to Old Trafford.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports initial talks have gone well and Old Trafford is a realistic destination for the right-back this summer.

Leverkusen won’t be allowing Frimpong to go on the cheap. It means Celtic could have a cash injection this summer should Manchester Utd get the deal done.

If Celtic win the league they will automatically qualify for the Champions League once again. Having that guaranteed money plus extra cash for a potential Frimpong sale, our recruitment during pre-season could be interesting.
