CELTIC have been looking to add to their squad this month but nobody could have seen this one coming.

It appears Celtic have been scouting Hibernian wide man Martin Boyle with Nicky Hammond running the rule over the player RecordSport confirmed.

Hammond was also at the Dundee Utd vs Hibernian cup tie at the weekend, a trip which has seemed to spark a second look at the winger.

Boyle can play wide right of a front three and would be backup to James Forrest if he did come in. This would surely be the final straw for Maryan Shved if Neil Lennon brings in another player in his position.

Speaking about Martin Boyle, Hibernian manager Jack Ross doesn’t want to see him go.

“Did they leave at half-time?” quipped the Hibs boss when asked about the champions’ scouting mission “I’ve said before he’s a better player than some people have given him credit for.” he told RecordSport.

“He’s got a lot more than pace – his intelligence is really good and he contributed towards the two goals.

“At the second goal he stood it up rather than flashed it across but it shows he’s a player in a good place.

“He’s the last person I’d like to lose from this club.

“I’ve had it with players before – they’re players who get results and you enjoy watching them then people take them off you.

“But I’m not bothered with others watching him because it means he’s playing well for me.”

Neil Lennon has worked with Boyle at Hibernian and was one of the Irishman’s star players during his spell at the Easter Road club.

This would be an underwhelming but effective signing in many ways. However, will Hibs even want to do business with Celtic?
