Martin O’Neill has described one of Celtic’s new signings as an “adaptable” addition.

O’Neill oversaw the Hoops’ 3-0 win over Aberdeen as they maintained their perfect start to the new Premiership season.

The club have now signed ten new arrivals this summer, with six announced over the last few days.

Oliver Sorensen and Shim Mheuka were handed their debuts during Wednesday night’s win, while goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was amongst the substitutes.

Landon Emenalo, Joel van den Berg and Jordan Lotomba were confirmed in what was a busy day of announcements.

Celtic are, however, set to miss out on one of their top summer targets – Gvidas Gineitis. CeltsAreHere broke the news that a deal now looks to have collapsed. He was a player O’Neill was keen to sign, but an agreement could not be reached. 

O’Neill did, however, say a few words about new signing Lotomba. Primarily a right-back, the Swiss international can also be deployed on the left side of defence.

Speaking about the 27-year-old, O’Neill said (Celtic FC website):

“I’m really pleased to bring Jordan to Celtic. He is a quick, strong and experienced player.

“He is adaptable, can play on both sides of the pitch and he is very comfortable on the ball, so I think we are bringing another quality player to the club.”

The Hoops boss highlights Lotomba’s flexibility, which could prove key in the coming weeks. Emenalo has been ruled out for a couple of weeks, and with Kieran Tierney currently out injured (though expected back for the weekend), Lotomba may be expected to fill in at left-back.

The games are coming thick and fast for the Hoops. The upcoming international break aside, they are in midweek action up until November.

The squad will be utilised to its full extent, meaning there will be plenty of action for the new Bhoys.

Questions have been raised over signing a player who is currently injured. The club knew since the end of last season that a left-back was one priority, but Lotomba will now be expected to slot in to assist.

Shaun Maloney hopes Tierney will return for Saturday night’s match at St Mirren. If he isn’t fit enough to start, then it will either be Liam Scales or a Lotomba debut on the cards.
