Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has revealed the surprising off-the-pitch activity that has aided his rise to prominence this season. The Danish internationalist has been at the top of his game since Brendan Rodgers took over at Parkhead.

Whilst the Irishman has played a key role in the recent development of O’Riley, his own activity has also. He said (Celtic FC): “I meditate a lot, I speak with my friend/life coach who lives in India regularly. I work a lot with him in terms of speaking about things which I’ve kept inside me for a long time.”

One only really knows one’s self, and if what the 23-year-old is doing off the park is working, there is no reason to say he should stop. He looks a much-improved player this campaign, but he puts no pressure on himself to score.

Particularly last season O’Riley went through a goal drought a few times. He hasn’t experienced one this season yet, but he doesn’t force himself to net. He said: “It’s all a learning process, and naturally, there’s going to be times that are tough and challenging, but I think if you can embrace those in the right way and look at them from a point of curiosity and learning then you can always get to a better place.”

It will be hoped that the attacking midfielder can carry on his impressive form for the remainder of the season. O’Riley’s capabilities have been clear in the early stages of the campaign, with his performances in Europe and the domestic game catching the eye.
