Mikey Johnston has gave Celtic fans an update on his injury status after the player was sent home from international duty last week.

The Celtic player limped off at Ibrox and made way for Jonny Hayes to come on and grab the second goal of the day to condemn Steven Gerrard’s men to defeat.

There has been mystery surrounding the player’s injury with the Scottish setup remaining tight lipped on the extent of Mikey’s injury.

The player had some good news and bad news on that front as he spoke to Record Sport.

“I’ve just got a groin strain so I’ll miss the weekend’s game (at Hamilton) but I’ll hopefully be back after that.”

So no Mikey this weekend which could pave the way for an Mohamed Elyounoussi to make his debut or even a reprieve for Scott Sinclair.

Mikey has been in top form so far this season but it’s important he doesn’t become burnt out. Sitting out games to let others take his place will ultimately help him to develop more naturally.
