26th December 2023; Dens Park, Dundee, Scotland; Scottish Premiership Football, Dundee versus Celtic; Mikey Johnston of Celtic celebrates with a knee slide after he scores to make it 2-0 to Celtic in the 83rd minute

Following his recent goal for the Baggies in their 2-0 victory over Cardiff City, Johnston has quickly adapted to life in the English Championship, marking a promising start to his stint at the Hawthorns. The 24-year-old has fans raving about him already.

Johnston’s time at Celtic was marked by fluctuating opportunities under manager Brendan Rodgers. Despite moments of promise, his appearances were inconsistent, leading to a mix of performances and a struggle to secure a permanent spot in the starting lineup, leaving with just two goals to his name this season.

Reflecting on his move, Johnston shared that it was “important” to get his move away from Celtic.

“The Championship is a great place for someone’s career. I wasn’t getting the minutes I wanted at Celtic – I was playing but it was sporadic. Sometimes I’d play well and score and then wouldn’t play the next game – it was frustrating,” as quoted by Football Scotland.

“It was important for me to get out of Celtic to be honest and when West Brom came up, it’s a great opportunity. We want to make the play-offs, those are the big occasions I want to play in.

“The pressure at Celtic’s massive. I don’t think people realise how big the pressure is. It’s something I’ve been exposed to from a young age and it’s definitely something I’m looking forward to – I need the pressure to perform.

“It’s a massive challenge in a big, tough league – different to what I’ve experienced before – but I feel like I’ve got the tools to deal with it. It doesn’t feel like a step down. It’s another massive club in a good league.”
