The Steelmen is working hard to outdo several other Premiership clubs and teams from England to secure the left-sided defender.

Apparently, the pursuit became a top priority for Motherwell’s manager Stuart Kettlewell, especially after Brodie Spencer was recalled by Huddersfield.

Kettlewell’s interest in Montgomery peaked after Celtic brought him back from his loan at Fleetwood Town, where he was playing under the guidance of ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown. However, Fleetwood Town’s management has seen a couple of changes recently, prompting Celtic to reconsider Montgomery’s placement. He wasn’t getting game time.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep Montgomery within his line of sight, making a potential move to Fir Park a likely scenario. At 21, Montgomery has already experienced loan spells at Aberdeen and St Johnstone, you have to imagine wherever he lands next he’ll have to show something for the Irishman to take notice in the summer.

Celtic’s strategy seems to focus on placing their fringe players within the Premiership, allowing for closer monitoring and development. This strategy is evident with the recent loan of South Korean midfielder Hyeokkyu Kwon to St Mirren from Parkhead for the latter half of the season.

If the move to Motherwell goes through, Adam Montgomery would become potentially the third player this week to be loaned out, following Kwon’s move to a Premiership club and Mackenzie Carse move to Queens Park.
