Neil Lennon stepped up to steady the helm when Brendan Rodgers left the club in 2019, initially on an interim basis.

He continued delivering success until Steven Gerrard’s side broke a near decade of unbroken success, claiming to win their 55th title.

Despite past occurrences, Lennon maintains unwavering faith that Brendan Rodgers can rally the sceptics with another string of record-shattering accomplishments.

In his press conference on Friday, Rodgers confirmed his commitment to see through his three-year contract with the Hoops, prompting Lennon to propose that the esteemed Irish manager could topple Rangers’ 55-title record.

At present, Celtic stands at a commendable 53 championships.

Commentators and past players alike have suggested that The Rangers now present a significantly different challenge compared to when Celtic regularly netted four or five goals against them at venues like Parkhead, Ibrox, and Hampden during his initial Glasgow tenure. But there is some re-writing of history going on there.

Lennon, however, still places his bets on Rodgers emerging victorious. After all, he has got the better of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and, Unai Emery. Mick Beale a significant drop in quality from what Rodgers has faced over the past few years.

Lennon said: [The Herald]

“He’ll see that as a challenge and he’ll embrace it.
“You want to be pushed because it keeps you and your players on their toes.
“Celtic already have a guaranteed goalscorer in Kyogo Furuhashi and I’m sure Brendan will add another to that department as well.
“Look at it this way. Brendan’s signed a three-year contract and has publicly promised to fulfil it. If he can win the league in each of those seasons then Celtic will have overtaken Rangers with 56 titles.
“That’s an incentive for the board, the management and the players. It’ll be just one more thing which we have over them, added to the European Cup win, the Invincible Treble, the Quadruple Treble and two nine-in-a-rows.
“So if Brendan can reach 56 before Rangers then the section of the support who are still wary of him would forget all about the fact he didn’t stay – as they used to sing – for ten in a row.”
