NEIL LENNON has commented on Celtic flop Marvin Compper leaving Celtic this week to head back to Germany.

Signed by Brendan Rodgers, the defender only ever made one Scottish Cup appearance for the bhoys and that was that. Rodgers refused to play the German they signed from Leipzig and when Neil Lennon came in he took the same tact with the defender.

Having been taking a wage for the past 18 months while doing very little, the defender finally cut ties with the Scottish champions yesterday by signing for German THIRD TIER side MSV Duisburg.

Neil Lennon spoke about the departure and confirmed the player had left to return home because he was getting the chance to be a player-coach.

Lennon told CelticTV: “He got a player-coaching job at Duisburg but that one was probably best for both parties.

“He wasn’t going to fit in our plans so it was best he moves on and we can fill a gap now.”

Celtic signed Christopher Jullien last week to be a first team defender. It’s likely Neil Lennon will be looking for another backup for the centre of defence if he can get one. Injury and suspension could leave the bhoys very short.
