The rumour over the weekend that Dermot Desmond was in town has still to be confirmed or denied. Still, Neil Lennon did reveal he did chat with the majority shareholder after the Sparta Prague debacle on Thursday.

However, the Celtic manager played down any talk of an ultimatum and even told RecordSport his chats with Desmond are much more regular than people think.

“I’ve spoken to Dermot since Thursday, but it was a private conversation.

“I speak to him twice a week, so it was no different to any other week.”

Desmond is seen as a very silent shareholder by the support; Peter Lawwell runs the club for the Irishman and has done so for years and years.

However, Dermot always chooses the manager and gives the green light for who takes charge of the team.

Neil and Dermot have known each other for years, so when it comes to conversations about the club, Neil knows exactly what’s expected of him.

Both know what’s at stake this season, and the poor run of form has meant the manager has been under immense scrutiny. A win at Fir Park on Sunday eased the pressure but come mid-November, the game restarts and Celtic need to continue to win at all costs.
