NEIL LENNON is in self-preservation mode.

For me, that means the manager is doing us a bigger disservice because he’s looking out for himself rather than the future of the club.

It’s unfathomable to imagine Neil Lennon being in charge of Celtic come the first game of next season, so why is he being allowed to continue?

The manager has come under huge criticism and it’s safe to say the majority of supporters want change. The results haven’t been good enough and the league is gone but the manager is putting out teams he thinks can 100% win on the day at the expense of the future.

Let me clarify, I never want Celtic to lose, however, we’re in a unique situation where a lot of the players the manager continues to stick with will not be here next season. The self preservationist in Neil Lennon wants a result that day and nothing else.

If the manager wasn’t in self preservation mode, he would be giving some of the fringe and young players more of a say. The percentage of winning might go down but it wouldn’t hit the floor, but giving talented young players game time could prove invaluable in the next 18 months. It would give the club and the fans the chance to see what these guys could do playing next to the likes of Callum McGregor and the returning James Forrest.

Instead, we’re seeing guys like Scott Brown keep his place in the team; the captain is out of contract in the summer and as much as he’s a Celtic legend, he is no longer the future or even the present.

Soro, Luca Connell, Ewan Henderson and Mikey Johnston could all do with more game time. If you stuck an interim boss into the role, you’d likely see those bhoys get a run. It would give the new manager food for thought. Right now, we’re seeing Neil Lennon look for results and nothing else.

If the board can’t see it, then what chance have we got when Champions League qualifiers roll around mid-July.
